The Calgary Women’s Jazz Orchestra (CWJO) was formed in January 2023 and since that time has performed several sold out shows at the Ironwood Stage and Grill, the National Music Centre and the Vic Lewis Band Festival in Canmore.

Directed by Kathie Van Lare, a long-time music educator and free-lance trumpet player in the Calgary area, the Calgary Women’s Jazz Orchestra is comprised of many of the finest female instrumental musicians in Calgary and beyond. The group has shared the stage with Juno Award winners Ingrid and Christine Jensen as well as Juno nominees Jodi Proznick, Audrey Ochoa, Tara Davidson and Rachel Therrien.

The CWJO enjoys showcasing and celebrating music written by female composers and arrangers, including the music of some of the CWJO members.

Special Guest, Swedish Trombonist Karin Hammar joins the CWJO for this show which will feature some of her music along with the work of Ellen Rowe, Carla Bley, Jessika Smith and Leigh Pilzer.
